Kokkola Cup startade 1981 med Lars-Erik Stenfors som initiativtagare och med GBK som arrangör. Turneringen har utvecklats positivt och antalet lag har växt från 50 lag i starten till ca 370 lag idag. Som mest har Kokkola Cup lockat 330 lag till Karleby. Under 36 års tid har sammanlagt knappt ca 8000 lag deltagit i turneringen, med sammanlagt nästan 175 000 spelare, tränare, lagledare etc.
