Our passion for nutritionally rich and delicious foods and sustainable products were the sparks for creating Pona. We established the company with the idea to provide something healthy: for body, mind, environment and local communities. Pona, a word in Shona, one of the main languages of Zimbabwe, means to get better, to heal. This is what we believe good quality nutrition can do.
Zimbabwe is something that unites us. Rob has grown up in Zimbabwe and Hanne has travelled there several times during the last years. We realised there are so many superfoods, crops and plants brought to Europe from all over Asia and South America – but Sub-Saharan Africa remains unexplored. We wanted to change that – in a way that would help and empower local communities.
